France In America - Free Book!

At the end of my 21,475 mile motorcycle tour of the USA, I made a promise on my blog that I intend to keep. I said anyone that commented on my blog before the last day of the trip, would receive a free copy of my book about the tour.

That promise will be kept.

With a few things still to do, the book will be published early next year. To show my gratitude to those that encouraged me to keep writing on my blog by making comments on it, I would like to send you your free copy.

So, if you commented on my blog before the last day of my tour, sometime between now and 14th January, please let me have a postal address where I can send the book to. All you need to do is to send it to me in an email to the address in the 'Contact / Social' part of the panel on the right.

By the way, Blogger lets me know who commented, so no cheaters please!

That was back when I very rarely commented as opposed to now when I don't know when to shut up...

That is very generous of you. I only remember actually commenting twice.

It's a shame I just discovered your site. I guess I'll just have to read it the old fashioned way and actually pay for it LOL.

You must feel like you have given birth. Perfect title and cover. Really looking forward to your book. You saw and reported your trip across the US the way it should be seen and you rekindled my desire to explore this diverse country. Thank you.

No need for a free copy, Gary. I plan on buying your book. Looks interesting. And I definitely want to see more photos of the bike with the 50's actresses! Dan

I am like Roger - I can't remember either.

I've followed so many blogs for so long the dates run together.

Either way, I enjoy reading your blog and I am looking forward to reading the book too.

I think I posted a couple of comments as I followed you across the US. Congratulations on getting the book finished. It is a monumental task to write a book.

That is very generous. I can't wait to see the book and then of course review it on my site. This is so cool.

Gary:

It was a daunting task to keep up your posting, recording all the details, snapping photos, commenting back to readers every day from your hotel. We thank you and perhaps one day we can each ride a portion of where you were.

Because you purposely ignored this little corner of the Pacific Northwest it was hard to find an intersecting point to be able to "bump" into you whilst on the road.

somehow I know this will be a "best seller". Can't wait to see your book in person

A generous fellow and a man of his word! I wasn't following along with you back then (a nuby I was) but that won't stop me. Can't wait.

Karen/Vstar Lady:

I was also following your travels to CA at the same time you were heading East you were very close to Gary. I was tempted to mention it to you back then. Too bad you missed each other.

Gary I'm always impressed when people write books. Most people think that it's not easy, but it's even harder than that.

Some day a conversation will go like this:

"Ask Gary about motorcycle touring before you decide to take that trip."

"What does Gary know about it?"

"Dude, he literally wrote the book on that!!"

All the best,

David

Did I post a comment? Heck if I remember as I'm getting old and can't even remember when I last ...ZZZZZ... whoops, sorry, nodded off there.

Roger – With mint sauce too? It’s a deal.

RichardM – Twice is enough! That counts.

Robert – Afraid so!

Patti – It certainly is my baby, but I am not sure I can equate it to actually giving birth. With its square corners, I’d have opted for a caesarean. I am glad that I managed to get you thinking about exploring again.

mq01 – Thanks. Wait till you see the book, the proof looked really good.

Dan – Thanks, I hope you enjoy the book and that it gives you some ideas for some more long rides. I am glad you bike proved reliable on your recent long ride on The Loneliest Road in America. I did post some pictures of the Leading Ladies take a peek here.... http://garysusatour.blogspot.co.uk/2010/05/new-paint-for-my-road-king.html

Trobairitz – I will go check.....

Rosemary – I am delighted to say you did comment while I was on my trip. Thanks for your congratulations. You are right, it was quite a task and one that took a lot longer than I expected.

Thomas – You commented so many times, I feel I should send you two copies!

Bob – I think you have hit the nail on the head (do Canadians use that saying?). If people read my book and it inspires them to go and ride one of the places they read about, then I will have done some good. I was so lucky to see many great places and if I can encourage others to see them, then that will be terrific. “Purposefully ignored...” made me laugh!

VStar Lady – I seem to remember you are a teacher. Kindergarten, right? If you promise me you will sit the children down, tell them what a great country they live in, show them some of the pictures from my book (there are lots) and explain to them that reading books is a great way to learn about places they one day might go and see for themselves, then I will gladly donate a free copy of my book to your school.

David – You are spot on, as I thought it would be quite a challenge to write a book, but that doesn’t come even close. Getting the words down is hard enough, but then the process of editing, cutting, re-writing, sorting pictures, laying the book out and everything else that goes with it, it quite time-consuming. Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed the process as it meant I re-lived the whole journey over again. If just one person says that about my book, I will be delighted!

WooleyBugger – I am happy to tell you that you did comment back then. My book is quite heavy, so don’t fall asleep while reading, as it might cut off the blood flow while you ZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Canajun said...

Gary - That's awesome. I know I got in there with a few comments as I followed your travels so I can't wait to see the book. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Gary- I just came across your blog after you followed the company i work for, Bel-Ray on Twitter.Looking back through your posts it looks like you've had a great time exploring the US. Keep up the great work.

WooleyBugger said...

Okay, you asked for it Gary, I sent you my address. Maybe you can hand deliver it.

Gary France said...

Canajun – You are very welcome.

Scott – Thanks for taking a look at my blog. I had a fantastic time!

Wooley – Thanks, I’d love to hand deliver it, but no plans to be anywhere near you soon.

Hi Gary my name is Alessandro Insolia, I write from Italy.
I've been following your trip and blog, but I'm afraid I've left only one comment about it - I think it was about an italian-built bike you saw in Sturgis.
I was wondering if that's enough for a copy of your book! Of course I'm willing to pay for it and the shipping to Italy.
Let me know.
And congratulations for your book and your amazing blog!

Alessandro

VStar Lady – The book will be on its way soon. I hope the children (and you!) enjoy it.

Helmetorheels – Thanks!

Sonja – And I am glad you did!

Alessandro – I do remember your comment about the blue Italian bike, which I think was by Garage 65. Even though you made just one comment on my blog, I keep my promises, so send your address to me and you will get a free copy of my book!
