The smallest things can give a lot of pleasure.

Is it just me that takes great delight in achieving something so small, it could be seen as seemingly inconsequential?

Doing something well that is big or grand gives any of us a lot of pleasure, however infrequently that happens. It is a rare feeling when we pull something off that is very big, so shouldn’t we also celebrate the small achievements? I think so. Small celebrations are really just as important as the big ones.

Today, I had one of those small successes and it felt truly great.

Two years ago, I started looking for a fuel container to carry spare petrol (gas) on my motorcycles when touring. At two litres, the first I bought was the right size, but had a spout so small that refilling it was impossible. The next one was too flimsy. The last one I bought was too large (5 litres). It seemed hopeless, but I was determined to find a robust 2 litre container that I could fill at a regular petrol pump.

Today, that search came to an end when a delivery from Touratech (who else!) found its way into my hands. This is perfect and will fit into my panniers with ease.

So, I felt it was worth celebrating the end of a long search. A small success, but it gave me a lot of pleasure.

Such is often the case, especially after several failed attempts to get just the right item. Looks like a good find.

I am looking for something as well. Its all either too big or too small. That is pretty cool.

Touratech is the answer to most of these questions ;-)
The containers are of equal good use on scooters.

I have one of these too - Hein Gericke stock them as well.

Yes yes, most time it is the little things that make a difference and please us.

Congrats on finally finding a suitable fuel container.

I looked at those but ended up picking up one of the 5l containers.

This could be just the item I've been looking for. Checked out the camping fuel back packer bottles but they don't hold much.

I have one of the Hein Gericke containers, same size and shape. It's ideal and very convenient, but the neck is too narrow to get a filling station pipe in, so I have to carry a small funnel about as well. Kinda misses the point, and it doesn't seal well, but it was fairly cheap.

Thanks for your comments. It seems that I was not the only person on a quest to find the right container. In response to a couple of specific comments….. No Name, I tried one of those shaped H-D containers and it very nearly worked for me, expect they didn’t fit the saddlebags on my Road King. Richard, I think I once had the same container as you and I too carried a small funnel around, but I struggled to find a gas pump that pumped slow enough in order not to overwhelm the funnel. I threw it away!

Gary you say the shaped gas containers didn't fit your Road King saddlebags. Do you have the standard hard cases or the Road King Classic type?

No Name – They are the Road King Classic type, which have slightly curved corners at the bottom, so the shaped gas container didn’t fit snugly.

Yep. I think many of us are looking for these. I'm happy for you in finding the perfect one. Funny that you didn't share the url or name to that container. hehehe

People laugh at the Touratech equipped guy on the BMW or the old XT600 but they do make the gear that we need.....

;)

BeemerGirl – Sorry, I should have included that! Here it is, although this is a UK site, but you will be able to find one in the USA from this information…. http://shop.touratech.co.uk/canister-2-litre-with-large-feed-opening-and-admission-for-gasoline-fuel.html

Paul – I don’t care where I get my gear from, providing it works. Having used the fuel container for a long road trip now, I can honestly say it is the best I have ever seen.
