ABCD - Will You Take Part?

Maybe you would like to join in with this.....

A Bloggers Centerline Day, or ABCD, will take place on Sunday 1st May 2011.

The plan is to inspire as many bloggers as possible to go outside and take a photograph of themselves on this day, wherever they are in the world. The photo can be creative, arty, contain more than one person, be in any type of location and can contain anything else you like. It must however contain the centerline of a road and at least part of you, the blogger.

There are 5 rules....

Rule 1 - the picture must be taken on 1st May 2011.

Rule 2 - the picture must be of yourself, and you must be a person that publishes a blog. You can include whatever else you like in the picture, including other people if you wish.

Rule 3 - the picture must include the centerline of a road.

Rule 4 – you should publish the picture on your blog on 1st May 2011, along with a few words about the picture and why you chose that location or pose.

Rule 5 - when you have posted the picture on your own blog, put a comment on http://garysusatour.blogspot.com/2011/04/abcd-will-you-take-part.html and include in that comment the address of your own blog post containing your own picture.

Gary France will then pick his favourite photos and publish these as being the winners. There will be a prize of $100 awarded to the overall single winner, as chosen by Gary.

In order to get this event known as widely as possible, please copy and paste this posting onto your own blog, including the title. Please do that today!

As a reminder to yourself to take the photo and post it, put an entry into your diary for 1st May 2011.

Let’s see if we can get as any people to join in as possible.

This is very similar to a book I have with photographs from all over the world all taken at the same time and date, only thing is we have so much traffic the next photo would be a red ink spot

Great idea Gary, I've posted about it on my blog to help spread the word.

Now to think of some shot as awesome as the one you did, or reasonable attempt, anyways. : )

Nice idea! I'm looking forward to seeing all of the other shots. I may be somewhere where there are no lines on the roads i.e. no paved roads...

Count me in, good idea. I can only imagine the variety of photos that will be taken on May 1st. I look forward to seeing them all.

Great idea, just posting on my blog now

Great idea. Now all I have to do is find a road less travelled, but that has a centre line (a lot of them around here don't - may have to paint it myself.)

Beck said...

Fabulous idea! I don't ride a bike or have a blog, but I am looking forward to seeing all those wonderful pictures and hearing the stories behind them. If you have room, please post where all are located, since you indicated you would just post your favorites. If you need help in a tiebreaker, I would be happy to give my impartial opinion. Thanks for giving us something to look forward to again.

Interesting idea, DONE.

This is so COOL Gary!!

Lady Ridesalot said...

OMG! Just look at what you've started!!! You better start finding some helpers to look at what I'm predicting to be a tidal wave of entries. Woo Hoo!!!

Lizzie 'Pepper' Lane said...

What a great idea!
I'll post this on my blog to let more people know. It'll be interesting to see how many people take part in this!

WooleyBugger said...

Okay! Okay! Could be fun, I'll do it damn it.

Gary France said...

kiwionabike – Thanks for posting it on your blog.

Lady R – It will be fun to see what picture people take! Thanks for putting it on your blog.

Bob – Try to find a quiet road, not a busy one!

mq01 – Thanks for sharing with others! Yes, the comparisons should be great fun.

Charlie6 / Dom – Thanks for putting it on your blog. Thinking of what to do is all part of the fun!

Gary France said...

KT – I’m glad to hear you will be taking part.

Raftnn – I am sure you will be creative!

Oz – Thanks for getting the message out there. Now all you have to do is think about what to do for the picture....

Chessie – Putting it on your photo blog is a terrific idea, thanks!

Q of Z – Thanks for stopping by and for the re-posting on your blog.

Gary France said...

RichardM – No paved roads... hmmmnn. That could be a problem. Got any paint to create your own centreline?

D. Ford – As they say, variety is the spice of life!

helmetorheels – Thank you for posting it on your blog. I too am looking forward to seeing the pictures.

bluekat – Thanks for re-posting it. It was fun seeing that so many people are promoting this!

Kyle – Thanks and I like the name of your blog!

Gary France said...

Canajun – Painting it yourself is a great idea!

Beck – I am going to wait and see how many pictures are taken. I too would prefer to repost all of them, but in case there are too many, I may have to limit what I repost on my blog. If I need help, I will let you know!

Bleiglass – Thanks for re-posting on your blog.

Eve – Thanks for sharing in the fun and for putting it on your blog!

Lady R – It was fun seeing the same title appearing on so many blogs on the panel of blogs I read. I don’t know about a tidal wave, but it will be fun to see what pictures people take – if there are twenty entries, I will be happy.

Lizzie – One of the great things about doing this competition is that I get to hear from other bloggers near to me with similar interests. Many of my readers are in the USA and it is good to hear from one more local.

WooleyBugger – Thanks for putting it on your blog. That’s some beard you have grown!

Chris Luhman said...

I put it up on twitter. should be interesting to see all the photos :)

Billy Jones said...

Are you telling us you want us to go outside and play in the traffic? Cool, I'm game!

Rhonda said...

I'll be posting this tomorrow. Although I may have to clear the snow to get a picture of our center line...

Jerry said...

What a great excuse for a ride. And to find something really special as a background. Although I just started and only have 1 follower,,,I'll post it.

Gary France said...

Chris – Thanks, I don’t use Twitter, so I appreciate you putting it out there.

Billy – Yep, playing in the traffic is the plan. Be careful, of course!

Rhonda – Thanks for reposting about the ABCD. I guess I could say “Thanks for helping me, Rhonda”, but I suspect you may have heard that once or twice before. Good luck with the snow.

Jerry – You have got two now!

Gary France said...

A final reminder – A Bloggers Centerline Day is almost upon us. Tomorrow is the day to get out there and take a picture of yourself (or have someone else do it for you) with a road centerline included.

Be careful of the traffic and I look forward to seeing your pictures!

As per Roger (Raftnn), hello from the future - May 1st! It truly is an awful day, full gale and I was worried about being blown over. May your day wherever you are be in better weather!

Gary France said...

Raftnn and Geoff - Thanks for your early entries from the future! Sorry the weather is so bad down there. Even though it obviously will be prevented from winning, I am joining in the fun and am setting out in a minute (its 0717 here) to take my entry.

Richard said...

OK, here it is (and done on the right day!).

Great idea, and I look forward to seeing the others. I'm sure there will be many.

Suggestion for Gary. I know it means some work for you, but what about making up a list of all the entries with clickable links, so that interested parties can view the entries without hours of copy/pasting? Just a thought.

Richard - I am already on the case pulling all of the pictures together. I am going to put them all in a single post in the next day or so to avoid the need for copying and pasting, just as your suggestion.

Conchscooter - I am looking forward to it!

Richard said...

Gary - sorry, I should have expected you to be on the case! I'll look forward to that. Thanks.

Gary: First, I need to apologize for dropping the ball on publicizing ABCD. I read your missive about doing it NOW but told myself I would do it later....

Anyways, I posted my celebratory ADCD post made on a gloomy central Pennsylvania morning. It's called ABCD: A Bloggers Centerline Day.

I look forward to seeing everyone's pictures.

Chris – I was wondering what you might do. It is a shame the Ural wasn’t there and I am a bit surprised the Stig didn’t pull a few strings to make sure it was available!

Lizzie – Very clever and creative picture! I am glad you didn’t do the same as me!

Steve – I like your main picture with the yellow in your jacket reflecting the yellow in the centreline. The boots shot is very good also.

Good morning from the UK. I would like to thank everyone that has submitted pictures for the ABCD photo competition. It has been a great deal of fun looking at the pictures and I thought I would let you know what I am doing with them.

To make it easier for everyone to see all of the pictures in one place, I am copying them, plus a link back to the original blog owners posting into one new post on my blog. This is taking some time and yesterday I got about half way through it. I am resuming it this morning.

From what I have seen so far, there is a wide and varied range of photos and it has been fun to see what styles and locations have been selected.

I did say in the rules that the pictures must be published on your blog on 1st May, but I didn’t take into account the different time zones, so as long as it is on your own blog when it is still 1st May somewhere in the world, then it counts!

Look out for the posting on my blog of all the entries, and the selected winner soon!

Thanks again.

Gary

mq01 – great photos from a great ride. I have ridden Old Priest Grade and wow, what a road! I have selected the picture in the mirror to include in the post I am doing showing one picture from everyone – I hope that is ok!

Pat – I don’t know much about Molly Stark or her house, but now that you used it for your ABCD photo, I will read about her. Thanks for the photo!

Linda – Thanks for the photo of your foot in Nevada. If I ever get to travel on Interstate 80, I will think of you reaching to get your foot in the picture.

Queen of Zoom – I am glad that you managed to submit a picture from your road trip. I hope the weather improves for you.

Tucson Bonnie – You found a fantastic setting for your picture. What stunning scenery and a great bike too!

Gary France said...

Wooley – Thanks for the picture. That was great reason to chose the location. I think you were spot on with your comment that we have a whole bunch of fantastic other blogs to read now.

Troubadour – I really enjoyed your picture and especially the comment about cagers not understanding bikers – priceless!

charlie6 – I thought your picture would be from the mountains somewhere. I don’t think you look (too) much like a motorcycle cop in your picture.

4T8Harley – Thanks for the very creative picture with a good lean angle. Watch out though, there are a couple of ghosts right behind you!

Brooke – It is absolutely okay you were in an RV! Sedona is a fantastic place that I was lucky enough to visit last year. Enjoy the grand Canyon, it is amazing! Thanks for the great picture.

Gary France said...

George – I did feel sorry for you having ridden all that way to discover the lack of a centreline. Full marks for adding one yourself!

Rex- A terrific shot and well done for lighting the picture well while keeping the dark blue sky – very good!

GAW – Thanks for a great picture. If you had gone for pizza, it would have been soggy anyway!

Pat – I loved your picture of the reflection in the tanker. Very clever!

Eve said...
